Canadian rapper Drake is being sued for copyright infringement by Playboy Enterprises over allegations that his breakout smash "Best I Ever Had" samples a '70s hit owned by the company.
In a lawsuit filed June 24, Playboy alleges that Drake's mixtape hit contains Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds' 1975 soft-rock tune, "Fallin' in Love."
The suit names Drake -- whose real name is Aubrey Drake Graham -- as well as Cash Money Records and Universal Music Group.
Okay the parties involved have a partially and full responsibility about this issue.
For Drake:He is the man with the name on the track, and he does not know better about people jacking beat without paying royalties. Just because you did a mixtape with 9th Wonder hitting a serious rendition sample of Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love,” does not mean you can just go all out and do it mainstream without permission. Still, when you are in the game, you should not follow the mistakes of other artist who started big. Examples include Robbie Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice song “Ice Ice Baby” ties toward popular rock group Queen and their song “Under Pressure.”
For Cash Money Records: This is good example of cheating your way in the game can catch up to you. You can rob some people for royalties and sorts but not everybody. Brian “Baby” Williams have been cheating producers and original song artists for a long time. There are many producers who either complained, don’t want to deal with them, and are suing the record company for money.
For Universal Records: Plain and simple, they don’t care. People and sub-record companies like Drake and Cash Records are like buses, they come and go.
Track records about artists who have got caught sampling without permission and lost the settlement have not really came back from their career fiasco. Let’s hope Drake can learn a lesson from that.

Since when does Virginia become “The Dirty South” – Last time I checked, they have a region of their own. They call it the “D-M-V.” When VH1start honoring the DMV, then I would honor Timbo. VH1, “The Dirty South” consist of the following: Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Without Outkast, there will be no Organize Noised honored and without the Geto Boys, Texas will still be heard just from the south. They were the trendsetters out of the South. Both groups change the game in rap music. The Geto Boys were changing it with their raw and edgy lyrics that made people cringed. The first time I heard “Assassin” I was amped up. I see why the Insane Crown Posse, the craziest group that walk on Earth, remade the song.The Geto Boys were the first to sample lines from Brian De Palma epic classic movie “Scarface.” Outkast, on the other hand were 2 kids that were lyrical geniuses and serious go-gettaz. They have done it all, with all respect in the South.
If you wanted Missy on their so bad to represent the female MCs from the South, why not Mia X, or even Gangsta Boo? - I give Missy her credit in her contribution to hip-hop, but as far as southern female MCs, those two brought fear to the heart of male MCs in the house and their independence songs showed. Seriously, How in the HELL you leave out DJ Screw as a Honoree? - Without DJ Screw, there will be no "Screwed and Chopped." Texas would be like any other hip-hop. That is what made Texas hip-hop so unique.

Anybody that goes to school knows the rules of etiquette for being in class. Even though some people don’t enforce it, there are some that understand and use those rules. When the bell rings and you are walking, you are open to do anything with the exception of dumb-shit (fighting, getting drunk in public, anything literally illegal). So when this happen I was like. What the Fuck!!
I mean, are you serious, this whole-ass instructor barred a young man for saying “That is going to fuck up my entire GPA.” I am serious. What is so disrespectful of saying that? It is not like he just went on a rampage and just starts saying things like the following:
“How the fuck you going give me that grade, bitch!”
“That is some bull-shit.”
“When I re-take this class over and make an A with another, I want you to let know “Tell me how my ass taste.”
“Kiss my ass. I want a do-over you cluster-fuck.”
Now that would have been downright nasty and disrespectful. I also found out that the rule is unconstitutional. Hinds Community College is really on some kiddie shit. I know that it is an institution of high learning, but come don’t people have freedom of speech. This is not high school, THIS IS A COMMUNITY COLLEGE. I just don’t get these institutions with shitty rules.

You know there comes a time where something that soothe you down from a long day of work ends up not coming on anymore. I miss my ESPN the radio because it gets me through the morning and evening drive with no remorse. I had to listen to my second alternative to ease the pain, National Public Radio. The news that broke out on NPR had me stretching my head.
A radical Muslim group has warned the creators of South Park that they could face violent retribution for depicting the prophet Muhammad in a bear suit during last week's episode.
The website RevolutionMuslim.com has since been taken down, but a cached version shows the message to South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The article's author, Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee of New York, said the men "outright insulted" the prophet.
The posting showed a gruesome picture of Theo Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was shot and stabbed to death in an Amsterdam street in 2004 by a fanatic angered by his film about Muslim women. The film was written by a Muslim woman who rejected the Prophet Muhammad as a guide for today's morality.
"We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show," Al-Amrikee wrote. "This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them."
The posting listed the addresses of Comedy Central's New York office and Parker and Stone's California production office. It also linked to a Huffington Post article that described a Colorado retreat owned by the two men.
CNN, which first reported the posting, said the New York-based website is known for postings in support of Osama bin Laden and jihad, or holy war, against the West.
Al-Amrikee told The Associated Press in a phone call Wednesday that the posting was made to raise awareness of the issue and to see that it does not happen again. Asked if Parker and Stone should feel threatened by it, he said "they should feel threatened by what they did."
He said he was disappointed that publicity about the posting focused more on the potential danger to the producers but admitted, "I could shoulder some blame" for it.
He said he "can't answer that legally" when asked if his group favored jihad. But he praised bin Laden.
"We look up to him and admire him for the sacrifices he has given for the religion," he said.

Since when do cartoons make people get so riled up? I mean come on this is cartoon. A comedy cartoon as a matter of fact. Cartoons are like political satires of the world. They are supposed to make us laugh, but as always there are people who don’t find cartoons character very amusing.
I know we had minstrel show cartoon in the early 30s-60s; but come on, blacks have gotten over that. I still remember that Bugs Bunny cartoon where at the end they put on black face and singing Dixie. I never got it when I was because I was a kid. When I was older I was more like, “Why they never played that end.” My father told me that it was a stereotype of painting blackface. I, still looking dumbfounded and not caring was like, “It is not that serious. It is just a cartoon. Plus that was years back.”Then you have black people complaining over a cartoon. I don’t see them complaining about Foxxy Love on Drawn Together who stereotype black women as sassy; or Riley from the Boondocks (My favorite show), which shows every negative stereotype of what black kids are portraying these days (Riley is still my favorite character). We take it as face value and say that is comedy which it is. No harm, no foul. So why does people take cartoon creators so serious. That is an imagination of comedy, not to be taken. So I guess this year I can put Sarah Palin and a radical Muslim group together because it seems like they actually take cartoon characters seriously.
…..But Tea Party conservatives hate to have something in common with Muslim extremist since they think that the President is a Muslim. Don’t cha know?

As some people know, I am in grad school getting my master’s degree. I like obtaining knowledge whether in school or out of school. So this morning I was catching up on some work and run across this clip from Romeo and his group call College Boyz, and this is what he said.

This is something I have learned from criminal minded people when I was young. There are two different worlds, the business and the streets and you can’t mix them together. What some young black people don’t understand is that business world game is another side of game than the streets. In the college world, the consequences are not within the business side until you get into a job. The power is within a pen in the business world. Gangsters don’t use pens unless they are stabbing you with it. The business side is not for the weak mentally just like the streets are not for weak physically. VSB had a blog on what gangsters don’t do which is a great read. Just look at the difference between Stringer Bell and Marlo Stanfied. Stringer Bell was going to college and is the educated one in the streets where the game is the belly of the beast in Baltimore. Stringer found out that the business world people can in the words of Maurice Levy “rain make” you. Stringer ended up dead by trying to be the smart one. Marlo, on the other hand, just use what he had with no college in mind. He ended up becoming a businessman at the end, but his name in the streets was torch as weak.
So to these young people that listens to Romeo and other rapper that feed you a line with BS. Let me refresh this quote from the Ace himself.
“There is difference between streets smarts and book smarts. Street smart is good for the physical while book smarts is good for the mental.”
Do you feel that there are “original gangsters” in colleges? Do you feel that there is price you pay in the street by leaving them if you are “gangster?”

When a kid tells a true story about the things that are going on in his life, I cling to listen to it. Take Marcelas Owens (young man on the left) from Washington. His mother got sick, lost her job, lost her health insurance, and died. Just telling the story in a long version is seriously sad.

You see, this is what really kills me about Republican talk show pundits. They are heartless. They are saying “Since this little kid told his story, we are going to exposed his grandmother.” This kid believes that he can make a difference in each person life by telling his heart-warming story. This is not some sort of "Balloon Boy" incident, this is a child with a life that want to do better. There are certain things I say that is off-limit, ridiculing kids is a definite high priority. When the young kid came and said his speech at CPAC. I did not see one Democratic pundit ridicule him nor his parents. What conservatives think is that this young kids was exposed to say that. What if that child is telling the truth will shame all the humanity of the Republican party to the world. People are already saying that "All the Republicans want is what used to be. Things have change and people also change too." What these people are doing is calling bullying. If that is how you play it, do not get mad Michelle, Rush, and Glen if anybody start talking about you family members and such.
Should children be off-limits when they tell their story about things that concerns issue? If these people said something negative about you or your children and you belief of what you feel is true based on experience, what would you do?
I know it is March Madness, and there are going to be people with and without jobs watching who wins, who will be upset, is your tourney bracket up to par, and who will wear this year’s glass slipper into the elite. Blogs are already posted and predictions are already made, but I was looking forward to is one tourney.

The reason is that for some reason watching UAPB beat Duke, The Gauchos upsetting Evan Turner and THE Ohio State Buckeyes, Todd Bozeman making a coaching comeback and beating West Virginia, or Leigh beat Kansas is really irrelevant (Sorry, that ain’t gonna happen). Even I was a witness of a 16 upsetting a 1 seed in women basketball (See Harvard-Stanford 1998. Trust me, that game was classic). What makes the NIT good is that some of those bubble teams that people were talking about for almost two months are 1 seeds and anything can happen, literally.
………..with that being said this is why players play hard or get upset in the NIT.

After a week in the books and taking in the knowledge and putting them on paper for my mid-term test in school, I am finally back. I have to say I was missing my blog for a moment. I heard a week in recap. There was Monique winning an Oscar, Howard Stern pulling a Don Imus, a death of a Lost Boy, a runoff win for a great Democratic leader in our area (Oh, kudos to WDBD Fox 40 for actually showing the guts to at least give the election results the day after. I wonder how come all FOX stations(including FOX News) are usually timely with giving the news than the other major branded stations?), Championship Week (for all the basketball fans), Torii Hunter calling Latinos "posers for African Americans" (you know you are wrong for that Torii), and Rush saying he is leaving the country if a health care bill pass (OOooooh, What are we going to do without Rush? SMH). Oh, did I mention that here in Mississippi we are having a “meth crisis” amongst the elite cities in the Jackson Metro Area. That one is another post coming soon.
Today I want to discuss something that happened two days ago. I want to say that kids are going to be kids and I feel as an adult to only show them a sufficient space of freedom of mind, speech, and all other things. What happened with Constance McMillen, an 18 year old senior at Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton, and the Itawamba County School System is sort of a free-for-all double edge sword.
The Itawamba County school board announced today it would cancel the Itawamba County Agricultural High School prom after a gay student challenged the district on its policy forbidding same-sex dates.
"Due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events, the Itawamba County School District has decided to not host a prom at Itawamba Agricultural High School this year," school board members said in a statement released through the district’s attorney. "It is our hope that private citizens will organize an event for the juniors and seniors.
"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone," the message concluded.
The announcement alarmed Constance McMillen, the 18-year-old senior who had petitioned the district to change its policy.
"Oh, my God. That's really messed up because the message they are sending is that if they have to let gay people go to prom that they are not going to have one," she said. "A bunch of kids at school are really going to hate me for this, so in a way it’s really retaliation."
I have to say that sometimes adults need to let children be children, especially prom. This part is a case of closed minded adults versus free spirited teenagers. So she wanted to go to prom with another female. Big deal! She could have just said “I go into the school gym and when my date gets there we are walking in together. I am guessing that these board members forgot about the 80s, 90s, and 2000s movies that had prom night in them. Not all of them had a man and a woman together at times. So that is where the closed minded thing begins. Even if she said that she was a lesbian and proud of it, What give you the right to judge a person based on whether she or he go to a function with the same sex. Remember that Matthew 7:1-5 said that “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.” So for the board members and the people who are against it in Mississippi remember. We have been judged a lot, and now is not the time to judge.
Now the other side of me is asking why Constance brought the ACLU into the mix. That is something I never got because she could have won on her own because people in the community would have fought for her. Bring outsiders like the ACLU and the LGBT to a community like that is not welcomed. You need a community voice not a national voice on this. That is why they nixed the prom altogether. I am not saying that she should have shut her mouth, but rather find a way to do it without the school board members and community families looking at you sideways. She should have taken a page out of the black hustlers’ book, do it without them knowing or saying anything.
How do you feel about the school district saying that prom is between “a man and a woman?” How can adults be more aware of children preferences in times like these?
