Hinds Community College, a Mississippi Community College, is the largest community college in the state of Mississippi, serving more than 10700 credit ...
I can really say that being a sports fan, either you like the underdog and you love your favorite. I can tell you things like this.
In the NFL, you love the Cowboys or you really, really hate them.
In the NBA, you love the Lakers or you really, really hate them.
In Major League Baseball, you love the Yankees or the Red Sox or you really, really hate them (sorry, both are annoying at times).
In college football, you love THE Ohio State University Buckeyes or you really, really hate them.
In men’s college basketball, you love the Duke Blue Devils or you really, really hate them (...and you don’t have to be an UNC fan for that one).
And now it has spewed over into women college basketball.
In women’s college basketball, you love the UCONN Huskies or you really, really hate them.
I cannot feel sympathy for the rest of women’s college basketball when I say that UCONN is either “that good” or women’s college basketball recruitment has gotten “that bad.” Geno Auriemma is really that legendary of a coach. Their dominance in the women’s rank has gone down as even legendary as those Tennessee Lady Vols day and even Louisiana Tech dominance in the early 80s with the short sleeve jerseys. They play the game with great fundamentals and every time they usually have a backup player waiting to place their status of women’s basketball legendaries when their players graduate. You remember those old UCLA teams in the 60s. John Wooden replaced Lew Alcindor with Bill Walton, Gail Goodrich with Lynn Shackleford and Sidney Wicks with Keith Wilkes. Other colleges just ended up stepping the recruitment up after that.
So for all the women’s college basketball coaches that want to end UCONN, here is a note. Start recruiting better.
Would you rather watch UCONN beat the breaks off every team until someone challenge them or would you be happy just to see someone upset them?
Next week is opening day of my favorite season for maybe about 2 months and every other day when something literally happen.
…Baseball season.
After that lil Torii talk (You know, Domincan players are “posers” for black players), he must have forgot that there is a “black” that have the baseball world turning heads.
…and When April 5 come he will be the starting right-fielder for the Atlanta Braves. His name….
…Jason Heyward.
Jason Heyward had the baseball world talking when he blasted a homerun off Max Scherzer (Detroit Tiger’s pitcher), but it wasn’t because of the pitcher. It was because of how high he blasted it off him. Jim Leyland, legendary coach from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida Marlins, and now the Dertroit Tigers said this about Jason.
“I’ve never been one to get excited about the distance. Anything hit over the fence counts a point,” said Tiger manager Jim Leyland. “But obviously a young man with his size, with the strength he has, he looks like a really good looking young player. I was very impressed with his patience at the plate more than anything. He didn’t chase any bad balls. (Albert) Pujols was the other guy who was like that.”
Leyland is comparing him to The Machine and Boss Cox is comparing him to Hamering Hank is something big time. Let just hope he something spectacular for years to come. Don't think so, look at this.
What do you think about this young man ready to take the baseball world by storm?
I know it is March Madness, and there are going to be people with and without jobs watching who wins, who will be upset, is your tourney bracket up to par, and who will wear this year’s glass slipper into the elite. Blogs are already posted and predictions are already made, but I was looking forward to is one tourney.
……………………………..The NIT
The reason is that for some reason watching UAPB beat Duke, The Gauchos upsetting Evan Turner and THE Ohio State Buckeyes, Todd Bozeman making a coaching comeback and beating West Virginia, or Leigh beat Kansas is really irrelevant (Sorry, that ain’t gonna happen). Even I was a witness of a 16 upsetting a 1 seed in women basketball (See Harvard-Stanford 1998. Trust me, that game was classic). What makes the NIT good is that some of those bubble teams that people were talking about for almost two months are 1 seeds and anything can happen, literally.
………..with that being said this is why players play hard or get upset in the NIT.
Herb Pope from Seton Hall against Texas Tech and Phillip Williams from Jackson State against Mississippi State guess did not like how their counterparts (Darko Cohadarevic of Texas Tech and Dee Bost of Mississippi State) were making them look so they took matters in their own hand (or fist, should I say).
(Note: For those who hate waiting go to the 0:19 mark)
(Note: for those who hate waiting, go to the 2:03 mark)
Well I can say this. Although they went for the jewels, Baylor star Brittney Griner went for the haymaker and connected on Jordan Barncastle’s face. Talk about knockout queen.
That is why I like college sports!
With all these wild incidents, are you watching the first round on the NCAA men tourney, the NCAA Women’s tourney, or the NIT? I know it is sad but what do you all think about this?
Around 9:30 PM CST Sunday night, the following things were happening in the South:
Some drunk redneck and a black guy were doing the back bump during happy hour in Mississippi
Some Bama guy and Auburn guy forgot all about the Iron Bowl game and was hi-fiving each other like the Walter Payton-Fridge Hi five in eastern Alabama.
Some guy from the Metarie and some other guy from the 9th ward are second line dancing, doing The Ratchet, and Jiggalating off the song “Jigga Juice” at Bourbon Street
The reason why is because the New Orleans Saints is in the Super Bowl. Maybe because Greg Williams is mad because he got shafted for the heir apparent to Joe Gibbs for Snyder’s boy Jim Zorn.
Maybe because Drew Brees was shafted by San Diego for Phillip Rivers.
Maybe it is just how the Saints felt shafted after Hurricane Katrina.
Whatever it was, we thank them, because everybody in the Miss-Lou-Ala region are doing the jig over the Saints being still undefeated. I like that they have a high-potent offense and still a stingy defense. I am so getting me a Saints hoodie after years of futility.
Before I go, That Drew Brees’ pregame is just as hype as Ray Lewis. Check it out.
I know my blog-kin folk AverageBro and all the kin-folk DC bloggers are pondering on this and saying "WTF" After all, The Wizs are under-acheiving. Seriously, when you have Flip "Mode" Saunders as your coach, Mike Miller (a great player in Memphis) as a back-up and the big three (Agent 0, Jamison, and Caron) at least 2/3 healthy, you would wonder how come they are not up there with Boston, Cleveland, and Orlando. This might tell you why right here.
Arenas and Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other during a Christmas Eve gambling dispute, according to a report in the New York Post.
According to the report, Crittenton became angry when Arenas refused to make good on a gambling debt and shouted "I'm not your punk!"
That's when Arenas reportedly pulled a gun from his locker, prompting Crittenton to do the same.
A friend of Crittenton, Kendrick "Bookie Ball" Long, told the Post the third-year player discussed the altercation with him.
"He (Arenas) was (expletive) with him; he (Crittenton) was just defending himself!" said Long, who would only say the the dispute was over money.
Arenas has said he brought unloaded guns from home and stored them in his locker to keep them away from his children.
And this why my man Flip-Mode is upset with his team. Shout-out to Listen to Leon (and the-half Michael Jackson, half Eric LaSalle thing going on).
I have held out against Tiger Woods for 2 weeks because I like Tiger the golfer just like how I like Jordan the basketball player and Barry Bonds the baseball player. The media did a number on Tiger and his infidelities. So I wanted to go all Chris Crocker on these BS media and a shout out to Ed the Sports Fan. I saw what Mark Reily said about Tiger.
And Jim Rome said................
Well, I have to agree with Jim Rome on some of that. I just wonder if the media will let up on Tiger, but that is like wondering if the war on drugs will end. I mean he is a role model, but I am glad I had Charles Barkley during my time because his infidelity is not an issue to me and it should not be with all these kids that look up to Tiger. In a world where parents should be role models and not advising their children to be someone else, Tiger indiscretions are a mere fact that he is human. That is not people want to hear. If parent want there children to be like the Tiger we saw from 1996 to 2008, well get a robot or something and feed your child oil and write an application for him to be perfect because in life, No one is perfect nor untouchable. So for the media to disclose and make Tiger to be a monster in 3 weeks when they were sucking his balls praising him for a decade and some change is just something he will have to get back. So with that being said, in my dream world, this how I want to Tiger to come back.
Tiger Woods with most likely divorce his Swedish wife and end up engaged with a black woman named……….well let’s just call her LaDonna G., a doctor that grew up in Columbia, South Carolina that is a high prominent person in the Tampa after they found out they had something in common at an Orlando Magic game. Tiger come back in full force, wearing the basic black with nike emblem being gray polo shirt (like the Oakland Raiders of old). He not only breaks Jack Nicklaus record but shattering it to where golfer will have to work extra hard to get a sniff of it. Tiger start looking even more arrogant to his golf buddy peers, pairing up with Jesper Parnevik in a first round. After he shooting like 10 birdies, 2 eagles, and 6 pars; he look at Jesper and does a D-X chop like Triple H in wrestling shakes his hand with grace and tell him “good game.” He will go on to the golf Hall of Fame and tributes one to his late father.
………………………..But that is my dream. It is good to dream.
Okay football is in rare form. Everybody knows the scenario.
The Heisman race is heating up for the best player.
There are upsets and shockers around the whole of college football.
Team will either clinch their division to go to their respective championship game to get to the BCS.
Boise State is undefeated……………….
Wait a minute. Boise State is undefeated!
You probably want to know what I am getting at. Well, for the fourth time in five years. Boise State is undefeated and still the BCS want to give the hoax for the third time. They want to play serious team. So the question is the following:
Why are the team who call themselves top dogs (Florida, Ohio State, USC, Bama, LSU) are scared of Boise State on the blue turf or even at there home?
Let me re-count the session of why they are scared to play Boise State.
2004 Boise State was undefeated and people were saying “They were not playing anybody” They ended up playing in the Liberty Bowl and lost to Louisville. Bobby Petrino life has never been the same. He when on and up and down meltdown courtesy of Louisville highs and Atlanta and Arkansas lows.
2005 brought Boise State to a somewhat pretentious season losing to BCS teams Georgia, Oregon State, BC, and at rival Fresno State. They really found something out that season. Buzz Peterson found out that he could play with the big boys, but now he needed to hit a little harder.
2006 was the start of something serious winning all their games (oh yeah, revenge was sweet against Oregon State on the blue turf) and ended up playing in the best BCS game since VY versus USC. It also showed that Big Game Bob was not so “Big Game” anymore.
2007 was their year to shine again. The only railroad was that the challenge was not the blue turf but on the road, losing to both Washington and BCS buster Hawaii. Buzz new challenge was now beat BCS teams on their own turf.
2008 was the year they took their state in taking their show on the road. They dominated BCS teams Southern Miss and No. 17 Oregon on their own turf. The only railroad was a domino effect. Losing the chance to another BCS series run to Utah, who railroaded Bama, and losing to TCU in the battle of the undefeated.
2009 was another year for Boise State to show they can run through the competition. They beat an Oregon team in which LaGarrett Blount (the WTF moment of the college series) could not even show his stuff on the Blue Turf. Also they are running their opponents into frenzy. Still, they cannot get the respect since 2006.
So why don’t the BCS big shots are scared of them, just ask any team that could have been BCS style teams. Oh and ask Oregon and Oklahoma. They will prepare for you and defeat you
The scariest date for your girl to have in October is not the 31st because of Halloween.
…….It is October 1st
The reason is that unless you are just into going out and making out with your girl which everybody needs a little break (just ask her). October is like a “Sport Haven” month for guys. There are so many games that are played six days a week and all of them are usually on a cable station that anybody can pick up. It is like Madden Season but without a Playstation or a Auto Show that is running for one month. You cannot get a guy to get up off the couch in October unless he is going to the game which makes it worst. I can sum it up all in one.
The MLB Playoffs- Any old school person knows that baseball really dreads between opening day and the playoff push. But once the playoffs start, anything goes. From walk off homers to something strange that always happens to put your team out of the playoffs. Any sport fanatic can tell you where they were when Reggie Jackson got his name Mr. October, when old Buckner misplacing the ball at first on a Mookie Wilson dribbler, when Kirk Gibson doing that “yes, yes, yes” arm pump, when Kirby Puckett hitting that game winner and Jack Buck saying “We’ll see you tomorrow night,” to Steve Bartman messing up Moises Alou catch for the clincher and Florida ended up winning the NLCS and the World Series, and when Jack Buck’s son Joe was channeling his dad respectively in Game 4 with “Ortiz into deep right field. Back is Sheffield!
We'll see ya later tonight!”And in Game 5 when Damon was rounding third after Ortiz hit with “Ortiz fights it off, center field! Damon running to the plate and he can keep on running to New York. Game 6 tomorrow night.” Oh yeah and that bloody sock that Curt Schilling in Game 6 (Sorry, the 2004 ALCS is still to me the best championship game I have seen in my life). Anyway the playoff is memorable as a kid and can be with you until you are an adult.
College Football – October is filled with great college football games. Other than that usual homecoming at your college you go to reminisce with your friends about how you all got drunk and did mischievous things, the college football games in October are epic and last from Wednesday to Saturday. There is the Red River Shootout in Dallas between Texas and Oklahoma which anybody and everybody that live north of Austin and South of Norman go to. Then you have the World Largest Cocktail Party between Georgia and Florida. That rivalry is the ending of the October weekend or usually the start of November weekend. Then there is the Third Saturday in October (You heard it right!) between Alabama and UT. October is also the home of Wide Right II and Wide Left for all those Florida State- Miami fans and those USC- Norte Dame classics in South Bend (…and boy, there are many.) HBCUs have so many classics in October; it is hard to keep up.
The mid-hype of the NFL season- This is where the NFL starts kicking in to gear. Some of the most memorable games have come from October in the NFL. To your favorite team this is your make or break peek month because November is too quick and December you already know where your team stand. October is also home to the infamous “Sharpie Pen” from Terrell Owens to Drew Rosenhaus.
Basketball season starts- October is pre-season and the start of Basketball season. If your team sucks in football, and your team did not make the playoffs in baseball, there is the savior in basketball because your team might do something good to start off. The off-season acquisitions, trades, new coaches, players making more money, need me say more.
Hockey season starts- For you people who really don’t like baseball, football, or basketball, there is hockey season. It is the same like basketball season but with more fighting and toothless guys. I forgot the mention the slapshots that scatter glass instantly are off the chain.
That is why October is the worst month to be with your girl if you are a sports fanatic. So if you have a girl around this make sure you have your “I’ll will pamper you” speech and roses ready because when November come, she is going to ware you out.
This is a new segment called "Eating My Words." This segment is about what I once said and what I am saying now. The first one is about the Denver Broncos.
It is not the size of dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog.
Whoever wrote this quote was dead-on. I remember saying this before start of the football regular season.
“The Denver Broncos will get Sam Bradford for the 1st pick because Kyle Orton really sucks. I mean he did not do anything for Chicago.”
“Brandon Marshall will get traded because Jay Cutler is gone.”
“Jay Cutler is going to make Denver regret trading him.”
“Denver is just going through one of those seasons.”
“How would they just let go the best coach in the business in Mike Shannahan, I mean he made mediocre running backs look like legends.”
“Josh McDaniels is going to have the same stumble as Eric Mangini, Romeo Crenell, and Charlie Weis had – a situation where we knew who ran the show i.e. Bill Bellicheck.”
…………….Unless you are a die-hard Broncos fan, I know everybody else said something similar to this too.
Now coming into week 6, I am saying this
“I was wrong.”
“Mike Nolan is mad because he got fired, that is why his defense is No.2 and people still can’t score on them in the 4th quarter.”
“Kyle Orton is making Jay Cutler look like Tommy Maddox-ish”
“Correll Buckhalter and Daryl Dawkins knew something that we did not.”
“Jay Cutler could have been better if he was with Josh McDaniels. His Fault”
“Brandon Marshall is still there and looking like the other T.O. (the effective one).”
“Denver is 6 and 0.”
……………..Oh and
“Sam Bradford will not be the 1st pick anyway. his shoulder is now his Achilles.”
Even Legends are not untouchable to my WTF moment. Just ask Kareem. His mind got rejected(in my Marv Albert voice) by a $400 question about someone who came after him.
Wow, he either thought everything basketball in UCLA was all about him and my man John Wodden. By the way, Happy be-lated 99th birthday J Dub.
College football is in rare form, and I am a big fan of it. I remember the Desmond Howard Heisman pose (In Keith Jackson tone, “Hellllo Heisman”), the big upsets, That guy you was like “Man, I bet you when he go to pros he is going to be a NFL Hall of Famer” and ended up a big bust, The rivalries (Ohio State- Michigan, USC-Norte Dame, Florida-Florida State), the play you were so amaze about, and the big hits for a guy that is going to be powerhouse in the NFL against some kid who is going to college to be a nuero-surgeon. I know what you are thinking………………..
“Where is this going?”
I sat and watch the Miami- Oklahoma game, The U versus powerhouse “Boomer Sooner.” These are two team people love to hate. After watching this game, it made me bring in some insight on the U and what Jacory Harris had cut in his head “U-SWAG.” In a sense, the college team is right. Before those pesky USC Trojans, THE Ohio State, Big Blue, The Swamp Machine in Florida and “Hook’em” Texas Longhorns started talking smack about them being the top dog, everybody was so traditional. Miami University came with Howard Schellenberger and took on the status as “The pimp of college football.” They would intimidate you, lure you, tell you what they are going to do, and brag about it the next day with their friends. The U was the cocky college football team you love to hate, somewhat like the Cowboys, Yankees, and Knicks. The part was that the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s was all U, all the time. The list just shows you the swag of the U with household names like Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, Jerome Brown, Michael Irvin, Jimmy Johnson, Vinny Testeverde, Cortez Kennedy, Warren Sapp, Ray Lewis, Andre Johnson, Devin Hester, Russell Maryland, Sean Taylor, Ken Dorsey, Edgerian James, Clinton Portis, Willis MaGahee, Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson (Sorry, being a big fan of wrestling I had to put that in there), and numerous alumni that won multiple championships and so many bowl game.
So what is the difference between then and now?
Well the anticipated debut of Kyle Wright and Brock Berlin were like the college version of the NFL busts, all hype- no action. Not to mention that 2005-2007 seasons was more like when the U in the 70s. So Randy Shannon had to come in, put it back in line and begin the process of bringing the swag back in the U. So far that 2008 season was a wake up call, and 2009 is looking great to say that are bringing that “swag back”
So far can it go?
Real far! After going 3-1 against Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma, all ranked teams, there schedule is a breeze and play all the way to an ACC championship game (unless Virginia Tech go undefeated in ACC play). Here is there schedule.

One two threats I see here is UCF who defeated Florida State and at Chapel Hill against North Carolina with ex-U head Butch Davis.
Other than that, the SWAG is back at the U. Good luck to the Hurricanes.
P.S. I have to upload Ed Reed motivational halftime speech. He speaks like he plays.
Legarrette Blount was known as a running back that could have been 2nd to 3rd round pic. He was poised to be the next Brandon Jacobs of the New Giants.
..............that was until this.
That stock drop worse than a bogus company exposed. To the person who got punched at the end of the game, always have your helmet on.
Today, until I feel like really just forgetting about it, I am going to run a list of beautiful female athletes. I don't know is it me, but an athletic female is super-attractive to me.
1. Marta- Soccer Player, Los Angeles Sol, Brazil National Team
She is the Candace Parker of Soccer from what I heard. I did not see her beauty until I check out the Los Angeles Sol doing promotion for their Championship run at Dodgers Stadium. She threw the first pitch. In the words of Pops from Friday
